MTV Europe 2010 Music Awards will be broadcast live from Madrid, on Sunday, Nov. 7, 2010 at 9 p.m. ET on MTV, as well as online. The Red Carpet show begins at 8 p.m. so fans can tune in early.
Tens of thousands are expected to attend the event in Madrid, where Katy Perry and Linkin Park are both giving free concerts in Madrid’s historic Peurta de Alcala.
Billed as the biggest live event on the European music calendar, the awards show is being presented by global style icon and Desperate Housewives star, Eva Longoria. Justin Bieber will be the digital host, posting live, constant commentary during the show.
Longoria, who said she was excited about her host role, told Reuters in a recent interview: “I have an intense love of music and have been a host before and my family is from Spain, so it’s a perfect fit in Madrid.”
Acts include Perry, Bon Jovi, Ke$ha, Kid Rock, Kings of Leon, Linkin Park, Miley Cyrus, Rihanna and Shakira. Longoria has warned fans to expect the unexpected, Reuters reported.
U.S. singers Lady Gaga and Katy Perry have each received five nominations, with four of them in the same categories. They will compete for Best Pop Act, Best Song, Best Female Act, and Best Video. Lady Gaga has also been nominated for Best Live Act and Katy Perry for Best World Stage Performance.
Bon Jovi will receive the inaugural Global Icon prize at the ceremony. The band, with musicians Jon Bon Jovi, Richie Sambora, David Bryan and Tico Torres, has sold more than 125 million albums. The musicians have performed over 2,700 concerts in more than 50 countries to 35 million fans and were the number one touring act in the world in 2008, according to MTV.
