It is a testament to this debut album that at almost 90 minutes it never loses its coherence or vitality. Certainly not easy listening, well crafted lyrics illuminate a cold, desolate and tragic urban landscape.
A culture of drugs, violence and casual sex are addressed in all their complexity, with scarcely a hint of the glamour often associated with the genre.
