Marvin Isley, the youngest of the famous Isley Brothers, passed away in Chicago on Sunday, June 6.

The reason of the death was not revealed; however, reports show that the singer suffered from Type 2 diabetes for many years prior to his death. In an interview with the Atlanta Journal-Constitution in 2001, Marvin Isley said that he regretted ignoring his diabetes.

“If I would have listened, if I would have understood diabetes like I understood music, maybe these things wouldn’t have happened,” he said.

According to the American Diabetes Association, the Type 2 diabetes is the most common form of diabetes. Suffering from Type 2 diabetes can lead to the lack of insulin that results in a loss of sugar in the body. It can increase the risk for further serious or even fatal diseases.

The Isley Brothers was established in Cincinnati in 1954 by brothers from the Isley family. The group still remains one of the most important musical groups in America today. Many of their songs were top hits in different times, including “Twist and Shout” from the 60s,”It’s Your Thing” in the 70s, as referenced on their official MySpace page. The group carried on as a duo without Marvin and three other members in early 90s. Their most recent album Baby Makin’ Music peaked at No.5 on the R&B chart.
