While some people might think that it’s the job of first responders to rush and aid in an emergency situation, a dramatic video of a man rescuing a driver from a fiery car crash in Massachusetts is proving that anyone who is in the right place at the right time can help save a life.
“I saw people in need and I just had to help them,” Budgell said, recalling the incident.
According to Budgell, he noticed smoldering, so he tried his best to pull the wounded driver out of the car as quickly as he could because the flames were going up at a rapid speed.
The heroic good Samaritan even tried to come up with various solutions to help the driver such as trying to carry him but admitted that the man was in too much pain, so he just tried to drag him.
A video of Budgell pulling the injured driver with one arm from the car engulfed in flames was captured by a motorist, Harold Greer, on his dash camera. Witnessing the horrific incident, Harold immediately pulled over to help with the rescue.
“It’s something else, when you see someone do something so great for somebody in trouble,” Harold said.
“He told me he only had one good arm, which is why I was dragging him that way,” Budgell said. “I kinda just looked at him and said, ‘I’ve gotta drag you, man, this car is about to go up. Gotta do it,’ and I just dragged him up the hill.”
Not long after, many bystanders also joined in to help with the rescue. According to Harold, both the driver and passenger were in “bad shape” due to the crash.
“(The driver) was in agony,” Harold said. ”You felt the heat. You felt when the tires blew and when the gas tank went. You felt the blast from it.”
Budgell, who is now being hailed as a “hero,” said that the injured man thanked him for saving his life.
However, for him, he knew he had no choice but to spring into action. He said he definitely feels good that he could be there at that time and help out.
