TORONTO—Toronto area Member of Parliament Mario Silva had high praise for the Shen Yun Performing Arts show he attended at Canon Theatre on Saturday afternoon.
“It was an incredible show,” he said. “Certainly everybody who saw it was very impressed with the performance, the cultural aspect, and the singers. It was magnificent. It was certainly something worth seeing.”
Mr. Silva, who brought his mother and aunt to the classical Chinese dance and music production, added that the show was “very well done, excellent. I think everybody should go see it.”
Shen Yun’s presentation “gives you a very interesting perspective on 5,000 years of Chinese culture and history,” he said.
“It also had a message of hope and peace, I thought it was quite beautiful,” Mr. Silva noted. “I think overall this is a very powerful show.”
The depiction of myths and legends from China’s long and rich history along with modern-day tales of courage was also something that impressed Mr. Silva.
Based in New York, Shen Yun is comprised mainly of ethnic Chinese who grew up in the west. The Shen Yun Orchestra combines traditional Chinese and classical western instruments. Shen Yun explains that its mission is to revive the essence of traditional Chinese performing arts. Its performances highlight the ancient Chinese emphasis on virtue, kindness, good character, and reverence toward the divine.
“I think it was just very well put together, very well orchestrated,” said Mr. Silva.
He congratulated everyone involved with the production.
“It was an incredible performance, and I think everyone should be very proud of the dancers and the singers, it was quite remarkable,” Mr. Silva said, adding that the show gives people food for thought.
“There is a lot to see here and a lot to really reflect upon as well.”
