INDIANAPOLIS—Sen. Ron Grooms was moved by the spirituality and artistry of Shen Yun. “It was fantastic, awesome!” he exclaimed. The Indiana state senator and his wife, Mrs. Beverly Grooms, welcomed the return of Shen Yun Performing Arts to Indianapolis.
Continuing the Midwest leg of its 2011 tour, Shen Yun Performing Arts New York Company graced the stage of Clowes Memorial Hall of Butler University, Saturday, March 5.
Touched by the story of a young teacher killed for her spiritual beliefs in the dance Our Story, which was inspired by a true account, Sen. Grooms nevertheless saw hope for the future. “The emotion, the sincerity of the students and their general sadness at that particular moment—but they were able to bounce back,” he said. The performance brought him a sense of “recovery, hope, future.”
The senator was also moved by the dance The Opening of Heaven’s Gates, which touches on the traditionally held Chinese belief of good being rewarded while evil is ultimately punished.
Speaking of the backdrop, Sen. Grooms said, “It really is good. And it’s real. .... You can almost feel yourself there. I think it’s the color and the clarity.”
The New York-based company’s animated backdrops have been admired by audiences worldwide. The hi-tech images set the stage amid blossoming landscapes, deep forests, Mongolian grasslands, and other scenes.
The senator said he would recommend Shen Yun to his friends: “I’m going to tell them that the music is really good, that the color and the costumes and the choreography are …”
Mrs. Grooms, interjected, “… are just outstanding!” Mrs. Grooms went on to say that the Shen Yun dancers made no mistakes.
