Travelling is a fantastic experience, especially if you’re lucky enough to be travelling to far, exotic and exciting places. However, long flights are perhaps not so great, and are rarely popular with even the most frequent fliers.

If you’re embarking on a far away trip soon and would like some tips for staying sane during your long haul flight, look no further. Here are some tips for doing just that.

Make sure you’re travelling comfortably

Firstly, it’s so important that you think about comfort over style when it comes to choosing what you’re going to wear on your long flight. After all, it’s not a fashion parade – you’re not Victoria Beckham – so you don’t have to worry about looking like a model. Wear something lose, cosy and stretchy so that you don’t end up feeling restricted at all during your journey.

Ensure you’ve got enough food and drink supplies

Making sure you remain refreshed and energised throughout the trip is important for your health, and it’s also said to help reduce your risks of experiencing annoying jet lag. It’s no secret that food on a plane is not exactly of gourmet standard, so it may be a good idea to take food onboard yourself, especially if you don’t want to break the bank! Take regular drinks, preferably of water, too to help you stay hydrated.

Get up and take regular walks around

Walking around on a plane is not the most normal experience ever, but it is important for keeping your blood circulating properly so you don’t end up with any unpleasant problems later on after you’ve landed. Aim to take a short walk every couple of hours to wake your legs up and to get the blood flowing around your body. You can even get socks to help aid the blood flow around, too.

Try and get some sleep, if possible

For those that have no trouble sleeping aboard a plane, first of all, we applaud you, and second of all…what’s your secret?! If you can sleep on a plane, this is great as it makes the journey fly by, and you won’t have the opportunity to waste your money on things you don’t need at the onboard shop! If this is something you do struggle with, head to your GP or pharmacist and see if there’s anything they can prescribe for you to help you get a couple of hours rest whilst flying.

Take a variety of things to keep you occupied

If this isn’t an option, there are other things you can do to help the time pass and stay sane. This can include taking onboard things to keep your mind active and occupied; from things like an ipad loaded with some films on it, and books or e-readers so you have something to read or watch at all times. Mix up what you do so that you don’t get bored and so that the time goes by as quickly and as smoothly as possible.
