A flaky, perfectly cooked fish can quickly be ruined by a bite of bone. And no one wants to eat fish with tiny bones in it. But how do you remove the bones?
Tool:
Needle nose pliers, fish tweezers, or dedicated kitchen tweezers all help to get the job done.
Most cooks do not need to buy fancy fish pliers unless they eat a whole lot of fish. So simply keep a dedicated pair of tweezers in your kitchen drawers.
Instructions:
Working with the fish skin-side down, run your fingertips along the top surface, and you will feel the bones. If you do not, bend the filet up slightly so that the bone sticks up.
Pull the bone out at the same angle as the flesh.
Pull the bone out at the angle at which it is sitting in the flesh, not straight up or you will tear the flesh. Place your fingers along each side of the flesh if you have a stubborn bone. Be gentle and do not rush.
To quickly remove the bone from the tweezers, dip them in a small bowl of water and the bone will slip right off. And now you will be able to enjoy truly boneless fish.
