An abandoned dog found with her face covered in porcupine quills was in need of more than just medical attention. Fortunately, a kindhearted woman named Bri Burnett crossed paths with this poor pooch and created a happy ending to the story.

It all started when Burnett, from Sweetwater, Texas, received a photo from a friend of the poor dog, named JoJo. The pooch looked like she'd been abandoned; on top of that, she seemed to have had an unfortunate encounter with a porcupine. Burnett knew the distressed pup needed help to survive and decided to take action. “I left that afternoon from work and went straight out to Lake Trammell, and there she was,” she explains, per KTAB-TV.
When she first laid eyes on JoJo, she could see that the quills in her muzzle were preventing her from eating and drinking. “Her entire mouth and head was full of quills. She couldn’t swallow because of all the swelling,” Burnett explains, per Western Journal. “Her little sides were caved in probably from just not having much to eat or drink, and she just couldn’t,” she added.

Burnett then took the pup to a local veterinary clinic and paid out of her own pocket for the vet to remove the quills one by one. The procedure took 45 minutes, and the poor dog had to be sedated. “He kept her overnight and I was able to pick her up that next afternoon,” she told KTAB-TV.

The kind woman was, however, modest while describing her selfless act and said she couldn’t just walk away. “I just think it’s our responsibility just to look out for people or animals that are in misery or hurting and so it was just kind of a no-brainer for me, I just knew it was the right thing to do,” she said.

After taking JoJo home from the vet’s, Burnett had to find her a forever home. So she made a plea on Facebook. It didn’t take long before she found Haylee Stewart, who was more than happy to give JoJo the home she deserved. “She fits my personality, she’s chill, she likes to nap rest. she’s perfect,” Stewart explained, per KTAB-TV.

JoJo’s new owner even took to Facebook to express her joy for having a new friend in her life. “When I thought about adopting JoJo, I didn’t think about the what if’s or anything negative. This dog was a blessing sent from my Heavenly Father!” her touching post reads.

Facebook users didn’t hesitate to express their delight at such a happy ending. “Thank you for your kindness to this puppy. We need to care for God’s creatures,” one user said. While another heartfelt comment read, “Thank you for helping this sweet dog and finding her a loving home!”
