Can wild animals express gratefulness to the humans who save their lives? They definitely can, and here is one such story of a squirrel that comes back to visit his savior.
Mattie recalled that one day, one of her friends told her that “he found 2 baby squirrels and one was injured.”
Knowing she couldn’t take care of both squirrels, a male and a female, she gave the female squirrel to her friend Kristen, while she tried to nurse the male squirrel, which had a broken paw.
Under Mattie’s tender and undivided attention, the squirrel “got better and better.”
She decided to call him “Crash Bandipoop.”
Crash is a friendly little squirrel that “socialized with his sister, my 5 year old daughter and my Great Pyrenees diesel,” Mattie said.
The tiny animal was so active that he once jumped onto her dog’s face. Fortunately, the latter was quite patient and allowed Crash to “jump on him like a jungle gym.”
As time passed, Crash became attached to her and “would never be more than 5 feet away from me,” she recalled. “He always had to know where I was and if I wasn’t around he freaked out!”
When Crash recovered, he was so active that “he was jumping around like a psycho.” At that moment, Mattie knew “it was time to release him.”
“I couldn’t think to just let him go anywhere so I let him go in my backyard,” she wrote.
Once Crash was released, Mattie thought she would never see him again because he didn’t return for a week.
“Then one day after I had a horrible day I came outside to him waiting for me on my back porch,” Mattie recalled.
And Crash leapt right on her the minute he saw her. Since then, he had been returning every day to visit Mattie.
Needless to say, Mattie was overjoyed and she couldn’t help but tear up in the video!
