The
CCP virus doesn’t seem to get in the way of one Michigan grandfather who has been walking miles to just get a glimpse of his newborn granddaughter through a glass door.
New dad Josh Gillett shared a heartwarming photo on
Instagram of his father with a beaming smile setting eyes on his daughter Elliana Rae, along with a message urging people to stay home.
“This is not normal. This is not fun. This is actually the worst feeling ever—but I know this is temporary,” Josh began his post. “Today, my dad walked over 4 miles to our house so he could see Elliana through the window... again. This has become a regular thing.”
According to another Instagram
post, Elliana was born on Feb. 20, 2020, through an unplanned C-section. Josh shared his father, Daniel, was excited and awaited the arrival of his precious granddaughter.
“While my wife was pregnant, I don’t think an hour went by where my dad didn’t brag about becoming a grandpa soon,” he
wrote.
After Elliana’s birth, her proud grandfather was able to hold her twice before the “Stay Home, Stay Safe”
order was announced asking Michigan residents to isolate themselves and avoid participating in social gatherings to help combat the spread of the CCP (Chinese Communist Party) virus, commonly known as the novel coronavirus.
According to guidelines issued by the
CDC, older adults are at the highest risk of COVID-19. It also recommends that parents should take the necessary precautions to separate their children from the elderly.
Thus, Josh’s father has employed a different route to see his granddaughter in order to keep himself and Elliana safe by laying his eyes on her through a glass partition.
However, for Josh, this new normal has been truly heartbreaking although he is aware that it is only temporary.
“It breaks my heart that my dad can’t hold my daughter,” Josh
wrote. “However, as you can clearly see on my dad’s face, he’s overflowing with joy just to see her.”
Appearing on a
segment of Fox and Friends, Daniel expressed how he would really like to hold his granddaughter but knows that he can only see her through the glass currently. He said, “It’s just for now, it’s part of our making a difference in caring for [their] community and of course my caring for Elliana.”
Josh revealed in the segment that this precious photo that has charmed the internet is his favorite one of the duo.
For Josh, his father walking 4 miles to see his daughter has meant the world. He said, “[E]ven though it’s a super dark time in this world, it’s not stopping him. And, I think it’s reminded a lot of people that it is temporary and there can be good still.”
In addition to sharing the priceless moment of his family with social media users, Josh also took the opportunity to remind everyone to stay at home and follow the social distancing protocol to help support the well-being of the community, and to curb the spread of the virus.
He concluded by
stating, “If this grandpa can resist coming inside and loving his first grandchild, I know the rest of us can do this too.”
