Google Earth is a valuable resource for a number of activities, and among them is locating giant sea monsters.
The most recent creature causing a stir is the one that left a long, wide wake as it traveled through New Zealand’s Oke Bay. While there’s no definitive explanation for what created the path, there are strong opinions concerning what didn’t.
The engineer who spotted the anomaly spoke about a few implausible causes with the Daily Mail.
According to him, sharks can be ruled out as they’re just not generally large enough to have left a trail of that length or width. Whales are big, but unfortunately they’re incapable of making sharp turns, meaning there’s not much of a chance one could have created the curve at the end.
That same man contacted Google Earth and asked for their thoughts on what could have made the pattern. He was told that the company didn’t speculate on such things, but the person responding to the inquiry did say that they thought a boat was responsible.
That suggestion was cast aside as well, as a watercraft would have left a foamier wake.
For now, it remains an unsolved mystery.
