VIENNA—One audience member after another, said that they were thrilled to have attended the Shen Yun Performing Arts Touring Company show at the Wiener Stadthalle .

People were excited to have come across a show that brought them true stories from China’s 5,000-year-old culture, from folk tales to legends and ethnic traditions, from past to present.

Vietnam-born fashion designer Nhut La Hong, owner of a business which specializes in womens’ Haute Couture, was one of those who immersed himself in China’s 5,000 year-old culture.

Although he has lived in Austria since the age of 14, he said, “I felt transported as if I was home again.”

His father is Chinese, and his mother Vietnamese and both assured, during his upbringing, to instill his culture into him.

“Quite inspiring,” Nhut La Hong said.

He uses much color in his fashion design collections. “I love fresh, colorful hues, and then when I saw the show it dawned on me that I came from that heritage. And the dancers’ costumes—the fabrics; they play a different role for me.

“All in all, this was a thoroughly enjoyable evening.”

He sensed that “Shen Yun wants to convey a message, that China’s people need independence. Yes, their economic lot has improved, but it is still a communist-ruled nation, and the rulers have destroyed much of China’s culture.”

He said, “The most important message the show brings the viewers is to have them realize the damage the communist regime has done and still does now to the country’s 5,000 year old culture, a culture that must be preserved.”

Nhut La Hong had first seen the New York-based Shen Yun perform in 2008 and is already looking forward to next year’s presentation.

This is his fourth time seeing Shen Yun and “it seems new each time I see it, and that is only right—just like life!”
