This week, we feature a now-classic foray into the world of Bond and a wacky, imaginative adventure based on the Minecraft game.

New Release

‘A Minecraft Movie’

A group of misfits is pulled into a blocky realm where creativity is key to survival. Guided by Steve (Jack Black), they must craft, battle piglins, and embark on a daring quest home. Along the way, they rediscover the strengths that make them each unique.

While adapting a game as open-ended as Minecraft is no easy task, this film embraces the spirit of creativity and adventure that makes the game beloved. The mix of humor, action, and imagination brings this pixelated world alive, and Jack Black’s energy adds the right touch of fun. The film opens April 4.

Family Pick

‘A Goofy Movie’

Goofy (Bill Farmer) takes his son Max (Jason Marsden) on a cross-country trip, unaware that Max promised his crush Roxanne (Kellie Martin) he’d be at a big concert. As Max deals with his lie and Goofy’s antics, their trip turns into a chaotic yet heartfelt journey.
A charming mix of classic Goofy slapstick and feel-good drama, this film balances humor and emotion without losing sight of its core: a father-son conflict. The expressive animation, catchy music, and shifts between comedy and sincerity make it both entertaining and relatable.
Adventure | Animation | Comedy Release Date: April 7, 1995 Director: Kevin Lima Starring: Bill Farmer, Jason Marsden, Jim Cummings Running time: 1 hour, 18 minutes MPAA Rating: G Where to Watch: Amazon, Apple TV, YouTube Rated: 3 1/2 stars out of 5

A Spy’s Gambit

Newly minted 00 agent James Bond (Daniel Craig) is sent to Montenegro to beat terrorist financier Le Chiffre (Mads Mikkelsen) in a grand poker game. With fellow agent Vesper Lynd (Eva Green) posing as his partner, Bond must outplay his dangerous opponent, but the stakes may be too high.

This is a well-crafted, tightly written reinvention of Bond. Stunning locations, sharp direction, and standout performances—especially from Craig—give the franchise new life while staying true to its roots.

Action | Adventure | Thriller Release Date: Nov. 17, 2006 Director: Martin Campbell Starring: Daniel Craig, Eva Green, Judi Dench Running time: 2 hours, 24 minutes MPAA Rating: PG-13 Where to Watch: Amazon, Apple TV, YouTube Rated: 3 stars out of 5

A Tale of Revenge and Redemption

‘The Secret of Convict Lake’

Jim Canfield (Glenn Ford) escapes a prison and heads to a small town to seek revenge on the man who framed him. But when he arrives, he finds the local men are away, leaving only women behind.

Michael Gordon effectively crafts a film where every character feels fully realized. The sense of isolation is palpable, and the well-constructed plot leads to a satisfying climax.
