COSTA MESA, Calif.—Shen Yun Performing Arts New York Company continued its West Coast tour today, Saturday, May 6, at the Segerstrom Center for The Arts, located in Costa Mesa, Orange County, California.

According to the center’s impressive mission statement, the center is Orange County’s largest non-profit organization. It offers the world’s leading dance companies, Broadway shows, award winning classical, jazz and cabaret artists, family entertainment, special events and year-round educational programs. It is also the home of three resident companies: Pacific Symphony, the Philharmonic Society of Orange County, and Pacific Chorale.

The Center encompasses the 3,000-seat opera house styled Segerstrom Hall, and it is here that Shen Yun is touching the hearts and minds of audience members, both young and old.

Among those who attended were Mr. Ketan Parekh and his family. Mr. Perekh is the Chief Evangelist for International Litigation Services. He is also a successful entrepreneur, as the president and CEO of Netinfo, a technology incubation company, which among other things, provided the technology platform that has helped to launch several multi-billion dollar web enterprises.

“We thoroughly enjoyed it.“ said Mr. Perekh. ”We’ve wanted to see the show for the last three years ... finally, since it was so close to where we live, I wanted to make sure that my entire family could come. I have my mom, and my kids here.

“We’re originally from India. ... I was just telling my son, that having the live music really makes a lot of difference. We thoroughly enjoyed it, and we’re going to tell at least 100 people that they should come see the show.”

According to Shen Yun, the “40-plus member orchestra is unique in its seamless fusion of Chinese and Western instruments. All of the music is original compositions arranged to fit perfectly with each dance.”

The show spans the 5,000-year history of Chinese culture. This is accomplished through the use of vignettes depicting both ancient and modern historical events, as well as folktales, Buddhist legends, and examples of dynastic dress.

For most, Shen Yun provides an unusually clear insight into the evolution of Chinese culture. Mr. Parekh had this to say about it. “I truthfully did not know all the pieces. You obviously get glimpses of it living here and being exposed to the Chinese community, but I’ve never been to an event where they actually portrayed it. So, this was a learning experience for us to see how the progression has taken place.”

Mr. Parekh’s son, Brian, added: “It was a really good show, and it was really interesting to watch. I especially liked the scene with the mischievous monks.”

Attesting to the fact that the show provides something for the entire family, Brian’s grandmother summed up the experience with, “Everything was beautiful—the symmetry, the poise, and all the girls. The costumes are amazing. We really, thoroughly enjoyed it.”
