TAINAN, Taiwan—The world-famous Divine Performing Arts (DPA) International Company staged its Taiwan premiere in the city of Tainan on Friday evening, bringing its unique show to this cultural city famous as the location of the first Chinese school in Taiwan.

DPA’s lavish presentation of Chinese traditional culture highly impressed Chris Castro, chief of the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) Kaohsiung Branch Office.

“DPA deserves its reputation,” Mr. Castro said.

Mr. Castro, who attended the show with his parents and friends, said that he was very delighted and pleasantly surprised to see this “marvelous” show.

He had heard about the DPA in the U.S. before and knew the performance is of high caliber, but had not had a chance to see it there. Since his parents happened to visit Taiwan on the eve of his first anniversary as Chief of the AIT Kaohsiung Branch Office, he invited his parents and friends from Kaohsiung to Tainan to the show to make the evening memorable.

He repeated that the show was wonderful and that it was fortunate that his parents could see the show in Tainan, as they would be leaving Taiwan soon and would not have a chance to see the show in Kaohsiung. Mr. Castro, however, will attend the show there again once the show arrives there.

Mr. Castro also expressed that he enjoyed all the DPA programs and that they were pleasant “to see” and “to hear.”

He especially enjoyed the pieces Mulan Joins the Battle, Monk Ji Gong Abducts the Bride, and The Monkey King Triumphs, as they were very educational and could help him learn more about the themes of allegiance and filial piety in Chinese culture.

He also highly praised the performers for their “magnificent” and outstanding performance. He hoped that the performers would able to put aside some time to visit famous historic sites and scenery spots such as Tarogo Gorge National Park during their tour in Taiwan.
