TAINAN, Taiwan—Su Siousiang, a composer, kotoist [the koto is a traditional Japanese instrument], and manager of Chengyuan Zither Orchestra in Tainan enjoyed Divine Performing Arts (DPA) International Company’s matinee performance with her husband, also an artist, on Feb. 21 at Tainan Municipal Cultural Center.
“I feel that Divine Performing Arts’ music came from the heart. So it can cleanse others’ hearts and purify their souls,” said Ms. Su.
Ms. Su’s Chengyuan Zither Orchestra is composed of many virtuosos. They’ve been performing often at venues such as Tainan Municipal Cultural Center and were invited to numerous events including “New Guinness World Record Koto Concert” in China.
She said that the show was sometimes moving, sometimes astonishing; sometimes it brought happiness, and sometimes it brought some thinking.
“I was touched to tears. Heaven Awaits Us Despite Persecution was so stirring.”
The performance began with The Five Millennia Begin, which she found rather astounding.
“It was very beautiful and noble. It thoroughly made me love it, especially the dancers’ gestures. The dancers took steps as if they were walking on the tip of a cloud. Their expressions were anything but mundane and their techniques were surprisingly professional.
“The colors of the costumes matched the backdrops perfectly. I play the koto professionally, and I bring students overseas to perform. Last year I just came back from Indonesia. However, I’ve never had much study in this field. DPA gave me inspiration. I learned a lot from this.
“In order to put together such a wonderful show, the make-up artists need to be good; the costume designers need to be good; the backdrop producers need to be good; the choreographers need to be good; the composers need to be good; and you need to combine and match all of these,” she said.
Guo Chengyu, Ms. Su’s husband used six words to describe such a combination. “This is what is meant by the saying ‘being one with heaven and man.’ Everyone has heard of this proverb. Yet nobody really knows what it means exactly. Today DPA really made me feel being one with heaven. DPA brought me to this realm. The show is very natural, fluid, and smoothly led me in.”
