PASADENA,Calif--“Spiritual, classy, precise,” and “meticulously choreographed,” was how company owner Mr. Way described a performance of the Divine Performing Arts 2009 World Tour, recently held at Pasadena Civic Auditorium in Los Angeles.
“The whole ambience of the show has been very spiritual, very professional, and I’m enjoying every moment of it,” he said at intermission.
“I’m reading in here (the program) about each story as we speak, trying to get an idea of what’s to come. I didn’t read this (before) so I didn’t know. I just watched. The brief introduction was all I knew.”
He and his wife, from Ukraine, have often watched the Russian composer Tchaichovskys’ Nutcracker Ballet.
They both thought classical Chinese dance was visually rich, the costumes blending together in a swirl of color.
Having often traveled in the East, Mr. Way said he found Chinese music to be soothing and the performance “spiritual, classy, precise. The fact they could choreograph that...every move was precision, very well done.”
Mrs. Way, a budding fashion designer, said she would come to see the show again.
“They (costumes) are great, the fabric that flies...probably the best quality silks I’ve seen. ... Any colors can match and look beautiful.”
The state-of-the-art backdrops that accentuated each scene on stage pleased the daughter of a region famous for dance.
Mrs. Way said of the performance: “The dancers here, they’ve got more skills, they’re more flexible. It’s really beautiful, really pretty.”
