SEOUL, South Korea—Seung-Su Shin, the general manager of the Chungbuk Jecheon Arts Group, was at the fourth show performed by the Divine Performing Arts (DPA) International Company in Seoul on February 7, 2009.
He lauded the performance as outstanding with its vivacious dance programs. “I would like to learn choreography from DPA,” he said after watching the show. What impressed him most were the gestures of the dancers.
Mr. Shin traveled more than two hours from his residence in Chungcheongbuk-do province to Seoul just for the show. He heard from a friend that DPA was performing in Korea. He could not go to the show in Daegu as planned, nevertheless, decided to take the trip to Seoul in order not to miss the opportunity to watch the show.
The DPA performance allows him to understand the authentic Chinese culture without any influences from the communist regime. “I used to have a prejudice against China, for it is a socialist nation; however, I am re-evaluating what Chinese culture is after I watched this performance,” Mr. Shin said.
He mentioned that he was most touched by Heaven Awaits Us Despite Persecution, a dance program about the persecution of Falun Gong in communist China. “The father of a child has died as a result of persecution, yet received help from gods and ended up in heaven. I am most impressed with this very touching program.”
He also liked the last program Knowing the True Picture Offers Ultimate Hope, and DPA vocalists’ performance. He wished there was an encore.
“Guimin Guan’s singing is excellent! The other vocalists are also very great. I’d love to listen to the songs again. I really wished there was an encore. The lyrics are very good and I am touched by them.
“In addition, dance program The Mystical Phoenix is extremely beautiful. The stage backdrop and extension to the stage are seamlessly connected. The music is pleasure to the ears and the costumes are very pretty.”
Lastly, Mr. Shin humbly said that his purpose for coming to the DPA performance is to learn from DPA choreography. Chinese classical dance is a strong form of expression, thus would be able to convey deep connotations to the audience. He imitated DPA dance hand movements while saying: ”I would like to learn from DPA on choreography. Our gesticulations are more reactive in relation to body movements. However, DPA dances express connotations well for example, flying gestures are like this (he indicated). They are very powerful expression and we’d like to learn these.”
At the end of the interview, he wished DPA even greater success.
