DAEGU, South Korea—Divine Performing Arts (DPA) International Company has showcased the richness of traditional Chinese culture to the people of historic Daegu, the fourth largest city in South Korea at Suseong Artpia on Feb. 2.

Ms. Jung, an actress and a member of the city’s dance company, was impressed by the Chinese culture, which has been closely tied to the Korean culture throughout history.

“The performance is extremely unique, extremely good. I couldn’t really understand the content of the show at first, but gradually I came to a full understanding. I have never encountered such dance [Chinese classical dance]. In comparison to most dancers of the companies from overseas, the Chinese performers’ expressiveness is particularly strong, the costumes are gorgeous and colorful, they really struck me, left a deep impression in my heart,” she said.

Ms. Jung, who has been engaged in modern dance, was struck by the different style of dance at the performance. She said as she was watching it, she gradually experienced the profundity and the sweetness.

She has been dancing since high school and now has more than 20 years of experience. Through a friend’s suggestion, she came to see the DPA.

“This experience will help greatly in my future artistic career. The performance is like a drama. Every performers’ facial expression, gesture, and technique is distinctive.”

Ms. Jung’s favorite piece was Heaven Awaits Us Despite Persecution, a story depicting a father who is persecuted to death by the Chinese Communist Party for his belief. As well, she enjoyed the story of legendary Mulan in Mulan Joins the Battle and Monk Ji Gong Abducts the Bride, an inspirational tale about one of the most adored figures from Chinese history.

“Watching these story-based dances feels like seeing a fairytale,” she said.
