Professor From China: ‘I felt a lot of energy’

CUPERTINO, Calif.—Divine Performing Arts (DPA) received a warm welcome for its two performances in Cupertino on Jan 14. The audience gave a standing ovation. Performances portraying traditional Chinese culture touched them deeply.

Many Chinese watched the show. Mr. Liu, a professor from China, was one of them. He said he felt a lot of energy while watching the show. He praised the dances, music, and the backdrops, which he said were outstanding.

He particularly enjoyed the fan dance depicting the arrival of spring [Welcoming Spring]. He said, “With the performers’ turning and the fluttering of the fans, the audience felt the same warmth and happiness that spring brings.”

He said that DPA dances are unusually beautiful, unlike other performing art companies that emphasize individuality. Performers of DPA are not like that; no one stands out, and each one is very beautiful.

Ms. Li from Beijing said that she had seen many promotions about DPA on her way from New Jersey to San Francisco Bay, and the performance was outstanding. The performers’ skills were very solid. She appreciated the dances about Falun Gong, which is forbidden in China. In addition, what surprised her were the number of male performers and their outstanding skills and techniques in the show.

Ms. Li especially liked the dance The Monkey King Triumphs, based on the story of the monkey king subduing demons while escorting his master to fetch Buddhist scriptures from India. She said her daughter would love it also, because she had just learned the story in Chinese school.

Mr. Tang arrived from Shandong Province a year ago. He watched two performances in a row and gave warm applause to both. He said, “The show displayed traditional culture from ancient times, and it is very convincing.”

He said he particularly liked the dances The Udumbara’s Bloom, Monk Ji Gong Abducts the Bride, and Knowing the True Picture Offers Ultimate Hope. He said, “When I watched Knowing the True Picture Offers Ultimate Hope, I felt the backdrop was taking me into another dimension.”

“I think in any country, only when people have genuine belief can they follow the rules and conduct themselves decently,” Mr. Tang said. “If everyone can do this, then the entire country will be rich, and the whole world will become peaceful.”
