TAICHUNG, Taiwan—“I had heard of Shen Yun Performing Arts before, but I have had no further contact with it,” said Zhou Liangdun, director-general of the Taichung Chinese Calligraphy Association, after watching the Shen Yun show on the evening of March 7. He commenting that the show was beyond his expectations. “After watching the show, I am deeply touched. Hopefully, those who haven’t attended the show can come to watch it.”

Mr. Zhou regarded the program, Heaven Awaits Us Despite Persecution, as educationally meaningful. He understood that the program presents a persecuted Falun Gong practitioner who is guided to heaven by Buddha and gods. He said, “I think that Falun Gong is not intimidated by political power and gets increasingly popular. They have not been changed by the Chinese Communist Party’s persecution, but keep doing what is right. I think this is very good. People in Taiwan totally support Falun Gong, while Falun Gong is misunderstood in China.”

As for the integration of backdrops into the programs, he thought that the programs were perfectly complemented by the backdrops.

Mr. Zhou said, “I used to tell my students to investigate arts other than calligraphy. I often come here to attend performances. Compared with other shows, the backdrops [of the DPA show] are perfectly integrated into the theme of the performance. I think this integration of backdrops can be a valuable source of inspiration.”

He said that he would introduce Shen Yun to two groups of people. “I have quite a few students. They should come to appreciate something based on ancient Chinese culture. The revival of ancient Chinese culture depends on Shen Yun. On the other hand, I think friends from the artistic circles should come to see the show. With different forms of presentation, Shen Yun distinguishes itself from previous kinds of dancing. Besides, the DPA performance is very authentic and traditional, which is of great value.”

Zhou Liangdun said,  “It is hard to come across such a good performance. I hope everyone can seize the opportunity to attend the show, and I wish the show great success.”
