LONDON—Shen Yun Performing Arts, acclaimed as the world’s premier classical Chinese dance and music company, performed to a delighted London audience on the evening of Saturday, April 9.
Among the many groups of families and friends enthusing about the performance was the Oakley family. Joanne Oakley, a director at Blue Skies Consulting, said it was her first experience of Chinese culture. “The story telling was amazing,” she said. “It’s lovely, fabulous! Wonderful performance!”
New York-based Shen Yun Performing Arts has a mission to revive traditional Chinese culture with completely original performances of classical Chinese dance, accompanied by a unique live orchestra combining Western and Chinese instruments.
Martin Oakley, a customer service manager for a construction firm, shared Joanne’s praise for the evening’s entertainment. “Beautiful dance, music. Amazing tenor!
He said that Shen Yun painted a “great portrait” of China. “It’s nice to learn a bit about the country.”
Joanne agreed. “I find it a wonderful way to learn,” she said, adding that she loved the musical score.
Debra Oakley was intrigued by a stage picture of the famous terracotta warriors in the dance entitled Recalling the Great Qin. “The pictures are absolutely beautiful,” she said.
She said she was also struck by the performers’ costumes. “I loved all the materials, the colours, the lighting and everything.”
