Not as instantly likeable as their debut album and with the allegories feeling a tad over-contrived, The Logic of Chance grows on you nonetheless. The quirky bubblegumness of Angles has been replaced with a Saul Williams apocalyptone, though the electronica beat-style is similar to their previous release. Scroobius Pip feels like a government campaign in places as he addresses social issues such as domestic violence. But he’s a hip hop MC in the truest sense and says something meaningful to the listener, rather than sluicing guns and bling sewage into our earcanals like so many of his contemporaries. Definitely worth a listen for fans of conscious hip hop and still one of the best hip hop acts ever to come out of the UK.
