DAEGU, South Korea—South Korea’s cultural elite came out in full force to see the Divine Performing Arts (DPA) International Company in Daegu, South Korea.

Attending the show over the weekend was former Korean Congressman and movie star Shinsung-il Kang who bought his family with him.

“The Divine Performing Arts dancers’ ability was incredible. It was so beautiful,” he said.

Born in occupied Korea, Kang Shin-yeong has a major in Korean Literature and appeared in more than 500 movies during his film career. He moved from film to politics joining the National Assembly, but had not lost his appreciation of the arts during that time.

“It was so beautiful. Our Korean folk costume colors are beautiful but the [DPA] costumes’ color was so gorgeous that it made each dance stand out. Because of this, I lost all track of time while watching the show,” he said.

Ju-Gwon Kim, an opera singer and representative of the Korean Cabaret also attended the show. He was similarly impressed. “This kind of performance is very rare, I haven’t seen anything like it for years.”

Ju-Gwon Kim said he was particularly intrigued with DPA’s ability to capture the attention of a broad audience, including those that were unfamiliar with more cultural activities.

“I want to emphasize the great meaning of the Divine Performing Arts’ artistic performance … because they managed to enable everyone, even those not usually interested in the arts, to really love the show.”

A Chinese tourist from the Mainland, who came to see the performance last year, said he had come back again for this year’s performance, because he could experience the true essence of Chinese culture.

Many other local celebrities attended the show saying the Divine Performing Arts was opening up a new chapter of culture that everyone could appreciate.
