A mile off the coast of Northumberland lies a unique island teeming with seabirds during the breeding season and home to 90% of the UK’s rarest breeding seabird, the roseate terns. Paul Morrison and Hilary Brooker-Carey are lucky enough to work here amid the wildlife spectacle, monitoring the seabirds and protecting them from egg thieves.
Coquet island is owned by the Duke of Northumberland and it is important UK bird reserve, for numerous seabird colonies. The biggest species is the Puffin but on the island is most important for the largest colony of the endangered Roseate Tern.
It is prohibited to land on the island but local boat company sail close to let visitors to watch this unique wildlife.
