VIENNA—Dr. Dittmar Zoder, owner of an Austrian firm, saw for the first time Shen Yun Performing Arts Touring Company’s dazzling performance held at the majestic Wiener Stadthalle, May 4.
The New York-based company presents in spectacular style classical Chinese dance and music used to portray stories of China’s beloved legends, folk tales and ethnic traditions, from ancient times to the present.
Its mission is to reawaken China’s divinely-bestowed culture 5,000 years ago, which has been all but lost under communist rule.
“Such a contrast, such a down-to-earth cultural show from the run-of-the mill shows we are accustomed to,” Mr. Zoder said. “This show relaxed me and I’m really glad I came here tonight.”
Mr. Zoder was impressed by the Shen Yun dancers energetics and artistic expression of classical Chinese dance, mostly new to the West, according to its website.
“Chinese dance is such perfection, such body control that I can only say that it is unique. I was impressed throughout the show. The show was marvelous. I have seen something like this for the first time.”
Then with a smile, he recounted how he found out about the show. “I received some fliers and thought I must see this show,” he said. “The colorful presentation and the exquisite colors [of the costumes.] And then again, the body control of these people was unbelievable.
“Although everything looks so easy, there must have been so much training to reach such level. One can clearly see this.”
He loved the Shen Yun Orchestra’s masterful fusion of ancient Eastern and modern Western instruments.
“The orchestra was a marvel. I just couldn’t discern that they played other than Western instruments… then, the erhu [a Chinese two-stringed instrument] caressed the senses.”
Mr. Zodar was deeply impacted by the performance that has been thrilling audiences around the world since leaving New York in December, last year.
“I believe that I’m so much more relaxed than usual when returning home. I’m taking with me cheerfulness.”
