Ms. Hu Qiaoyun, a Chinese immigrant who has lived in Canada for three years, excitedly told the reporter, “Tonight’s performance presented multiple aspects of China’s 5,000 years of history from antiquity to the present. … The meaning of each of [the performances] is very easy to understand.”
Ms. Hu said that Shen Yun has the power to inspire and uplift, just like true Chinese culture. She expressed that she was most moved by the depiction of the belief in Buddhas, Gods and the freedom of belief was existed throughout China’s 5,000 years of culture and history. The performance made her feel as if God was looking after and caring about all living beings.
Ms. Hu said she was most touched by the dance Heaven Awaits us Despite Persecution, which depicts a Falun Gong practitioner being tortured to death, but ultimately saved by a Buddha.
After watching the performance with his family, Jim Qin exclaimed that he had never seen such a performance before. He believes the performance was a very traditional Chinese cultural performance. Mr. Qin hopes his daughters will be able to enjoy the kind of consummate beauty of music and dance expressed by Shen Yun.
Mr. Qin felt that the program Monk Ji Gong Abducts the Bride expressed ancient Chinese traditions very well. During the performance, he felt like he was transported back to his childhood and the rural way of life that he grew up with.
Both Ms. Hu and Mr. Qin expressed that the Shen Yun performance was more wonderful than any performance from mainland China in terms of being able to represent Chinese culture and performers’ abilities.
