SYDNEY—Business owner Belinda Smyth and her husband Paul, an operations manager, say they have never seen a performance like Shen Yun Performing Arts International Company, who were performing at Sydney’s majestic Capitol Theatre on Sunday, Feb. 20.

“Very good,” said Mrs. Smyth who owns her own cleaning business. “It’s very entertaining, very different. We have never seen anything like it.”

The internationally-acclaimed New York-based Shen Yun presented an exhilarating performance of classical Chinese dance and music to express traditional Chinese culture as it once was: a study in grace, wisdom, and virtues distilled from five millennia of Chinese civilization.

Mrs. Smyth was inspired. “Really good, interesting … different to our culture, obviously. I like it.”

Her husband said he enjoyed the historical aspects of Shen Yun.

“I will walk away from this show with a bit more understanding of Chinese culture. We are enjoying it,” he said.

In retrospect, Mr. Smyth added, “I guess I am the sort of guy who prefers to watch football, but today I am really enjoying it … it’s quite relaxing. The athleticism of these guys, and the women you can really appreciate.”

Mrs. Smyth found the performance very entertaining and worth seeing. “We’ve really enjoyed it. One of my staff members bought us tickets, they’re Chinese. I have actually really enjoyed it, so it was really nice of them to do that.”
