VIENNA—Shen Yun Performing Arts Touring Company’s 2011 Vienna performances continue at the Wiener Stadthalle, drawing a large crowd on May 2.

An air of excitement filled the entrance hall as theatergoers looked forward to seeing a grand display of ancient China’s artistic traditions. The 5,000-year-old Chinese cultural heritage was new to many among the European audience.

Mr. Kaderschabek, owner of a Vienna firm, had come to see the show on the recommendation of his daughter who told him that Shen Yun was wonderful and he definitely should see it.

He was impressed by the beautiful costumes and the artistic skills of the performers.

“The gorgeous costumes and the stories from China were amazing,” Mr. Kaderschabek said.

Integral to a Shen Yun performance are the animated backdrops that transport the audience to another world. Projected behind the dancers, the hi-tech images lift the stage and set it amidst blossoming landscapes, deep forests, Mongolian prairies, or celestial paradises, highlighting the particular story being told.

“It was amazing how everything was harmonized, including the pictures on the backdrop. Even a European could understand what the artists were telling on stage,” he said.

“They must have trained for some time and thus could show such energy and strength. Yet, everything looks so effortless,” he added.

Mr. Kaderschabek shared that he was awed by the spirituality in the performance and enjoyed seeing the deities coming to earth from the heavens during several of the scenes.

“It is marvelous that one sees another part of China,” he said.

Shen Yun also presents stories from China’s various ethnic groups and vast regions.

“They are telling a story ... they are speaking of happiness and sorrow. This was an artistic marvel,” he said.
