A brazen bear completely ignored a homeowner’s warnings not to steal her bin when it trod into her backyard last summer.
Madison Anderson was watching her backyard in Gulf Breeze, Florida, on July 27 when a juvenile black bear clambered over her fence.
She captured hilarious footage showing the bear grabbing one of her wheelie bins in its jaws before dragging it to the ground and into the middle of the lawn.
Despite Ms. Anderson shouting at the bear to leave her bin alone, the animal pulled it across the yard apparently intent on lugging it over the fence on its way back into the bush.
“It’s a normal occurrence for bears to be in our yard, but seeing him drag the trash can across the yard and try to figure out how to get it over the fence was shocking,” Ms. Anderson said.
“It’s never done that before. And I was surprised to see it not be phased by my efforts to get it out of the yard, he could care less I was there.”
The bear stayed for 20 minutes as she tried shooing it away, hoping to discourage it from messing with the trash. She said that local bears aren’t skittish at all, and this one was “pretty persistent” about not leaving without the bin.
“We had a mama and two babies the summer of 2021, and the two babies have continued to visit, we think this is one of the babies,” she said.
