Bon Jovi, the popular rock band from New Jersey, had the highest-grossing tour of 2010, according to industry website Pollstar.com.
The band, famous for its singles “Livin’ on a Prayer” and “It’s My Life,” grossed $201.1 million with its 53-city, 80-show tour, besting second-place AC/DC by more than $20 million.
Rock bands accounted for four of the top five on the top-earning list, with U2 at number 3 and heavy metal group Metallica at number 4.
Two theatrical shows made the top 15, with family-friendly “Walking With Dinosaurs” coming in at the seventh-highest grossing tour with $104 million, and Cirque du Soleil – “Saltimbanco” making $57.4 million, putting it at number 15 on the list.
Overall, the concert industry has been sluggish as effects of the global recession linger. The top 50 tours recorded by Pollstar made a total of $2.93 billion worldwide, down from $3.34 billion last year.
Bon Jovi’s 2011 Live Tour kicks off on Jan. 27 in Sayreville, N.J. and will also hit Pittsburgh, Toronto, Montreal, New York City, and Washington, D.C. in the next two months.
