Opening our eyes to the world, photographers from 54 communities worldwide submitted their work to the Sony World Photography Awards 2024 and have been selected as its National and Regional winners.
This elite group of artistic, journalistic, and activist voices—professional and novice—was chosen from a pool of over 395,000 submissions from more than 220 countries and territories, making for a preverbal mountain of digital images to sort through, revealing the very best the world has to offer.
Now, this top echelon of world-class pictures has been released for you to feast your eyes on.
Here, we present the National and Regional winners of the Sony World Photography Awards 2024.
Some of the places these winners hail from include Nepal, the United States of America, Qatar, Japan, Greece, and Indonesia. Pictures were also sent in from Nigeria, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Slovakia, Vietnam, Turkey, and the Philippines. And of course, there are many more.
Only a handful of the contestants will become the overall winners in the various categories—Student, Youth, Open, and Professional—when they are announced on April 18. Their works will be placed on display as part of an exhibition at Somerset House, in London, from April 19 to May 6.
Billed as “one of the most important fixtures in the global photographic calendar,” the Sony World Photography Awards is now in its 17th year. Offering free entry, the event aspires to be “a global voice for photography and provide a vital insight into contemporary photography today.” For both established and emerging artists, it’s an opportunity to build exposure for their work on a global scale.
The universal language of photography speaks to all who see the world. The competition allows anyone with a camera—even in the most reclusive places—to forge multifarious connections across the planet. And the present selection is among the most outstanding.
