SYDNEY—David Raphael, a barrister, said Shen Yun Performing Arts International Company was “absolutely beautiful” after watching the show at Sydney’s Capitol Theatre on Thursday night, Feb. 17.
“I have a reason to be happy because this evening is quite brilliant,” Mr. Raphael said. “I have thoroughly enjoyed watching the grace of the dancers, it was really something.”
“The people with whom I was sitting just couldn’t get over just how well it was being done.
“The way in which everyone moved, it was just quite astounding.”
He particularly liked Our Story, which depicts a school teacher who guides her students to write the Chinese words for “truth”, “compassion”, and “tolerance” on the board—the principles of the meditation practice Falun Gong. For this, she is attacked and killed by police.
“I thought that was very well done,” Mr. Raphael said. “I would have liked to have been good enough to do some of those things, the way in which they were moving, it was astounding and so pleasant to watch.”
He also enjoyed baritone Qu Yue’s song “The Path to Heaven.”
“I thought the male baritone singer was wonderful. If only I could sing like that,” he said.
“It’s such a good performance and a really spectacular one.”
