VIENNA—Dr. Schreiner, whose credentials include those of Doctor juris, Mag. rer.soc.oec, an attorney and Rotarian, and his escort, Ms. Pauschenwein, sat in their seats after seeing Shen Yun Performing Arts Touring Company and were finding it hard to get up and leave the performance hall at the Wiener Stadthalle on May 3.

The couple heard about the Shen Yun performance during a guest lecture at a Rotary Club meeting and decided that they wouldn’t miss a dazzling performance that brought stories from China’s divinely-bestowed culture to Vienna.

The Ladies of the Tang Palace caught Ms. Pauschenwein’s eye. “The yellow costumes of one of the first dances caught my eyes and I still hold that gorgeous color in my mind,” she said.

According to the program, in the past, noble and refined women of the Tang dynasty court were praised both for their beauty and intellect. Full skirts and wide sleeves made up their court attire, projecting an aura of gracious majesty. With delicate steps and regal bearing, the dancers revive the grandeur of a dynasty that brought China 300 years of prosperity.

Mr. Schreiner agreed and added, “How lovely to see the movements that went along with the costumes.”

The dance The Heroic Lu Zishen, an unlikely hero born out of Chinese literature some 600 years ago, was among the scenes Mr. Schreiner will remember and chuckled as he recalled it.

A monk, Lu Zhishen, was expelled from a Buddhist temple for being drunk and disorderly, but reveals that his belligerence can be a force for good.

This scene was “funny, well portrayed, a gentle sense of humor, and the underlying message, all in perfect sync,” Mr. Schreiner said.

Ms. Pauschenwein couldn’t agree more, “Really well done.

“I thought the whole Shen Yun presentation was colorful, serene, and the music was calming.”

She particularly enjoyed the dance Plum Blossom. This blossom is very much loved by the Chinese people because of its resilience amidst adversity, blooming even in the snow.

“I liked the piece immensely, also the fans used in the presentation. Beautiful!” she said.
