HSINCHU, Taiwan—Dr. Hsu Su-Hsia, professor of Art and Design, watched Shen Yun Performing Arts International Company’s show in Hsinchu on the evening of March 22, 2009, with her husband, Mr. Lin.
After seeing Shen Yun, Dr. Hsu said, “The content of the show is very good, and the dancers were marvelous in terms of dancing skills and artistic training. The presentation of truthfulness, compassion, and beauty in the show was very impressive and extraordinary.
“We seldom see performing arts contain something about religion [belief], Buddha, Bodhisattvas, and the beautiful heavenly bestowed things. All these elements are good for our bodies and minds. Therefore, I think the show is excellent, since it is a very positive performance.”
As a versatile artist, Dr. Hsu has published many research papers regarding illustration, and she has seen many shows. She said, “I have seen many shows presented by performing arts groups overseas. It takes tremendous efforts to harmonize the colors of the costumes, coordinate dance movements, and train dancers’ facial expressions and other complicated skills. I think the overall performance was at a very high level. It was an enjoyable and very magnificent program.”
Dr. Hsu graduated from the Fine Arts Department of Hsinchu Teachers’ College, Ecole Nationale Supérieure d’Art de Nancy, and was awarded the Visual Arts Performance of the Highest National Diploma (DNSEP). She earned her Ph.D. from University of Strasbourg, France, and was the first Taiwanese artist to win an award in the Bologna Illustration Exhibition.
She is currently a professor at the Department of Arts and Design of National Hsinchu University of Education. She expresses her enlightenment and sentiments about nature beings through paintings and has held several exhibitions.
