VIENNA—The Wiener Stadthalle played host to Shen Yun Performing Arts Touring Company’s 2011 Vienna performances.

Ms. Christiane Frey, wife of the head of the Austrian Toyota Lexus, Friedrich Frey, attended the 2011 Shen Yun premiere performance in Vienna on May 1.

Ms. Frey is a member of the family that owns one of the few Austrian independent car dealerships. She is known as one of the most important patrons of the Vienna State Opera.

She was impressed with Shen Yun and said that she would recommend it to others, and she planned to come again on Wednesday with her granddaughter.

“The show was absolutely well done, beautiful! Dream-like and enchanting,” she said.

“We had no clue what to expect, and what we got was sheer perfection. It was amazing that everything performed tonight looked so natural, and beautifully carried out.”

She found the colors impressive and enjoyed the ancient stories, the allegories and the imagination woven into the presentation.

“Shen Yun transposes our fantasy into reality. The performance inspires our imagination and our visions. I am deeply fond of the marvelous color combination—dream colors! A simply superb stage setting; well done! I congratulate the whole cast. For me, this is pure romanticism,” she said.

Ms. Frey is especially fond of Chinese folklore and classical Chinese dance, due to its flowing movements and the physical techniques of the male performers, with their jumps, flips, twists, and spins, which have been a part of classical Chinese dance for thousands of years.

“It seems that the dancers bring everything to the stage without much effort—simply impressive from beginning to end.

“The men’s group performance—how they did those leaps—it looked so effortless. Yet, I’m well aware that in reality this is extremely difficult ... superbly done!

“I was particularly touched by the scene Our Story. It was simply amazing how the dancers successfully interpreted the actions of the teacher and the sweet little children—perfection! It seemed as if the dancers moved by themselves, yet the entire group was a harmony of grace,” she added.

The scene Our Story was inspired by a true account. It tells of a beloved teacher who writes the Chinese words for “truth,” “compassion,” and “tolerance” on the blackboard, when state police burst into her classroom and arrest her. The loyal students rise to protect their teacher, but fail in the face of police violence and the young teacher is killed for her beliefs.

Mrs. Frey considers this evening a cultural enrichment. She said, “The group brings us closer to ancient China. Everyone did an outstanding job. The tenor was excellent and the erhu [a two-stringed Chinese instrument] enchantingly haunting. It all was perfection that seemed easy, but was difficult to achieve. The artists succeeded!”
