NEW YORK—Shen Yun Preforming Arts left animation designer Dan Berry at a loss for words on Friday night as the company returned to the Lincoln Center’s David H. Koch Theater, for a special world-tour-highlights program. “I thought it was a special experience, I’ve never seen anything like it,” he said.

The audience gave an extended standing ovation after the June 24 performance.

From a technical perspective, Mr. Berry enjoyed Shen Yun’s projected, animated backdrops, which sometime interact with the performers. Some show the Himalayan plateau in Dance of the Snow-Capped Mountain or the lush South China lowlands of In a Miao Village.

“It just really expanded [the performance] and was really dynamic. I loved it,” said Mr. Berry.

Mr. Berry mentioned two dances, Nymphs of the Sea and Handkerchiefs. These two dances included colorful props that the female Shen Yun dancers used to accentuate their graceful and precise movements.

“The unity of the group and the dedication—it’s really amazing,” said Berry. The young designer said he would love to come back next year to see the show again. Shen Yun prepares a completely new program every year with new costumes, choreography, and music.
