When 75-year-old retired postman Rodney Holbrook from Buithwells, Powys, Wales, noticed that his things were being constantly moved around in his workspace, he was curious to know who or what was behind it.
“It has been going on for about two months,” Mr. Holbrook said. “At first, I noticed that some food that I was putting out for the birds was ending up in some old shoes I was storing in the shed, so I set up a camera to see what was going on.”
Not long after, Mr. Holbrook couldn’t believe his eyes when he discovered the culprit was a tiny mouse. The adorable creature had been sorting through Rodney’s mess and organizing it neatly.
In a list that reads like an episode of The Generation Game, the tiny mouse can be seen giving Rodney’s workbench the once-over: picking up items like clothes pegs, screwdrivers, pot plant trays, and corks; and placing them into a pot in the middle of the table.
One amusing moment shows the mouse grappling with a cable tie, which he eventually gets into the tub. In another scene, the mouse is seen pulling pieces of string into the box.
By the end of the secretly filmed video, the mouse dramatically improves the mess on the table and makes it ready for Mr. Holbrook to discover in the morning.
“I call him Welsh Tidy Mouse,” Mr. Holbrook said. “I don’t bother to tidy up now, as I know he will see to it.”
The amazing footage brings to mind the Beatrix Potter story “The Tailor of Gloucester,” in which a team of mice work together throughout the night to secretly help a tailor complete an outfit.
