Sit back and listen to some of the most exciting and demanding 20th century music in superb performances by soloist and Brazilian players under a fine conductor. The concerto for piano and wind instruments is a masterpiece drawing on three centuries of different styles of Western music. Its complexity seems to match life’s experiences of challenge and mood. In contrast, as intended by composer, Capriccio reflects a lighter more joyful mood of celebration by piano and full orchestra including elements of dance. Thirdly, Movements is a short 12-tone work sounding discordant to our ears. Finally, enjoy the musical journey of Petrouchka, the puppet.
