Given Ezra’s and Ahova’s ages, it would be especially dangerous for them to go out during the COVID-19 disease outbreak caused due to the CCP (Chinese Communist Party) virus, commonly known as the novel coronavirus. So instead, Ahova’s beloved husband of 67 years came to the rescue.
The Israeli couple’s granddaughter, Yael Shapira Avraham, couldn’t resist taking a picture of the two and posting it to Facebook. She wrote in Hebrew: “These are my grandparents. He is 92 years old (may we be healthy). In every situation, my grandfather is worried that my grandmother [won’t] feel well-groomed. You don’t see things like this every day.”
The simple yet moving gesture eventually got them interviewed on the local evening news. The Shapiras’ offspring, 4 children, 10 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren, were equally delighted, the U.K.-based media reported.
“They were really excited to see themselves on TV,” Yael told the outlet.
During the lockdown, the hair-grooming problem is one of the many daily-life struggles faced by many around the world, as hair salons and barber shops have been shut down in many countries to stop the spread of the CCP virus.
Tens of thousands of social media users in Israel and around the world were touched by the love and message behind the photo that has put the spotlight on couple relationship goals. Commenters far and wide found the gesture to be something younger people could learn from.
Another commenter underscored how different Ezra and Ahova’s relationship—which dates back to 1953—was from those most common in the contemporary era of online dating.
“[T]o think that if there was tinder in that generation, there is a chance that they would miss each other - because of an easy finger on the trigger..,” the social media user wrote, adding that it is amazing how this “couple has passed in decades together - wars, stressed financial periods, medical problems and still stayed together.”
Certainly, this simple yet moving photo turns out to be a timely reminder of not just staying at home but also cherishing and strengthening our relationships during this era of spreading pandemic.
