Only the most confident of crossword-puzzle solvers fill in the boxes with a pen, so at least the answer written on a museum’s crossword artwork was likely correct.

Recently, an elderly woman visiting the Neues Museum in Nuremberg mistook a piece made by Arthur Koepcke, an avant garde artist, as an interactive display.  Not only does ‘Reading-work-piece’ look like a puzzle, it carries the instructions, “insert words.”  So, she grabbed hold of a ballpoint pen and did just that.

The museum is confident the piece, which is on loan and valued at $89,000, can be restored.  However, for insurance purposes it had to report the incident.  A museum spokesperson said the owner of the artwork took the news in stride.
