Whoever said a dog and cat can’t be friends hasn’t yet come across the adorable and inseparable bond this golden retriever and Scottish fold cat from San Francisco share.

Samson, a 2-year-old pooch, and Cleo, a 6-month-old kitten, who live together with their owners, Lea and Eric Hendey, have warmed netizens’ hearts with their beautiful and unlikely friendship.

It all began when Samson, who is a very “sociable and loving dog,” according to Lea, was amazed after meeting a feline for the first time on a trip in 2019 to Paris.

Upon seeing his excitement, Lea decided to get Samson a cat of his own, according to the Daily Mail.

Since Cleo has joined their family, which includes another canine named Calvin, a 4-year-old Labrador, Samson took on the role of a “fatherly” figure in the young feline’s life.

Unsurprisingly, the duo hit it off right from the start. According to Curious Doodle, when the Hendey family took Cleo back to their home for the first time, the little feline started to cry during the car ride. Upon looking at Cleo tear up, Samson too started to cry because he was so worried for her.
Since then, the unexpected pair have struck up an amazing bond. “Samson grooms her after dinner and they sleep together. It is amazing to watch,” Lea told The Daily Mail.

When the pair is out on hikes, Samson lets Cleo climb on his back whenever she gets tired, Lea shared. Amused strangers who come across the duo tend to stop by and take pictures of this pair.

“People can’t believe it when they see how close they are,” Lea said. “Dogs and cats are supposed to be enemies but that couldn’t be any further from the truth with this pair.”

The pair’s piggyback photos posted on an Instagram account—where the Hendey family chronicles the journey of their three pets—have also gone viral, and people can’t get enough of their sweet and endearing bond.

“These two crack me up,” shared one social media user. “They are beyond adorable!!!” added another.

Lea admits that although Cleo is the smallest of the pets, she definitely shows the two canines who the “boss” really is.
