January 6 was not an insurrection and people who vote for Trump are not MAGA “extremists.”
I was looking at a pretty famous 20-something’s Instagram the other day, scrolling through her posts of fashion photo shoots, movie premiers, and award red carpets tossed in with a few “everyday” make-up free, natural posts.
Throughout that year, and into 2016, her posts became a timeline of what the mainstream media was narrating to the world, which was: Trump was bad and that he some how correlated to the mistreatment of brown people. And she also added the new hashtag #blacklivesmatter.
There weren’t many political posts after that until about 2019 and into 2020 where her posts suddenly became pictures of people who died in police interactions captioned with the words “Black Lives Matter” now in bold.
On March 19, 2020, California Governor Gavin Newsom announced that he was declaring a mandatory statewide stay-at-home order for all 39 million residents due to a virus called COVID-19. We were about two months into the stay-at-home orders on May 26, 2020, the day the world was first shown the video of the arrest of George Floyd in Minneapolis. Instantly, protests in the name of Black Lives Matter were organized and executed. It seemed like every person with fame and a platform were now advocates for this organization.
It didn’t take long for the people stuck at home to join the protests, and it took even less time for the protests to turn violent. Many American’s including myself sat at home completely baffled how unhinged people were behaving. We continued to watch in disbelief for three months as our major cities were set on fire, stores broken into, and even innocent bystanders and cops murdered ... with the mainstream media and Hollywood all collectively claiming this was appropriate action “in the name of equality,” and if you disagree you must somehow be racist. It was then that I realized there was something deeper going on. You see, this is when I realized that a narrative had been written, and if you go against it, you will be labeled. For months after the riots, the argument between many conservative voters and liberal voters seemed to be if the riots in the name of #BLM were justified behavior.
Then came the 2020 election. Using the pandemic as the reason, certain politicians decided that mass mail-in ballots were the best decision. What could go wrong? Many of us who expressed concerns about the safety and security risks associated with the new way the election was being handled were of course not comfortable with how it closed.
Many of us who were frustrated were glad when President Trump voiced his concerns about the election and said he was having a rally in D.C. Some even jumped on planes to go listen and voice our concerns. Little did we know the events of that day that would take place and how quickly the narrative would begin. With so much nefarious behavior happening and recorded that day, it’s clear that there was no insurrection. And with the mainstream media controlled by one political party, they got to work on their story. The same Democrats who embraced the riots in the name of BLM absolutely sieged the opportunity to loudly proclaim that now everyday normal Americans were somehow “insurrectionists and bloodthirsty extremists.”
It is now 2024 and the current president of the United States of America has proudly exclaimed half of its residents as extremists, simply based on how they vote. Of course that’s if they don’t vote for him, but even more so if they vote for his direct political rival, based on things like the economy, better quality of life, religious liberties, and parental rights. We have become the “problem.”
One political party has effectively put targets on the other party and its voters for how they vote. They have marked us the bad guys and we should be silenced, jailed, and stopped. Our rights no longer matter. And according to them, we should be punished solely for not agreeing with them. This is the new narrative. And this is the divide.
