In its eighth annual season, the Architecture and Design Film Festival (ADFF) opened the eyes and stimulated the imagination of an eclectic New York community this past week at the Cinépolis Chelsea at 260 W. 23rd St.
If your living in this world, whether its walking the streets of your village, town or city, or the first image you open your eyes to in the morning, architecture and design are entwined with the on goings of daily life. Who created them, and how these designs created is often left unthought of as we get on with life.
A diverse range of 30 feature and short films at the ADFF go behind the scenes, and bring to life the masterminds and their designs. This years films ranged from a highlight of 12 buildings from global architecture practice, Grimshaw, through to the raw garden designs of the Highline designer, Piet Oudolf, through to a short film revealing how nature inspired a series lanterns, or Shylights.
The films are often accompanied by question-and-answer sessions from the film directors and occasionally the stars themselves. The sessions often can go deeper into the themes of the movies and touch on the interesting behind the scenes of film making.
Festival Director Kyle Bergman seemed very satisfied with this years season as the last film came to an end for this years NY program. Happy guests applauded the ongoing efforts. “It was a highlight of my year,” one guest exclaimed.
The Festival has broadened its reach since its humble beginnings in 2008, now showing screenings and events across America in places such as New Orleans, Chicago, and Los Angeles.
