Newly elected congresswoman Victoria Spartz (R-Ind.), who grew up in then-socialist Ukraine, wants Americans to know that socialism isn’t sustainable and ultimately brings misery.

“Let’s look at any country that has socialism. Every country failed because this system is not sustainable,” Spartz told Fox News. “The system creates a lot of destruction and misery.”

She immigrated to the United States 20 years ago and now lives and works in Indiana. She said young people must learn that the freedoms they have were hard-won and people died to give us these rights.

“There are only two systems: you have freedom and free enterprise, or you have a system where the government decides, and political elites on top, how we’re going to live and what we’re going to do,” Spartz said.

“I think that we need to be good students of history. In our country for few last centuries, we fought against socialism and a lot of young kids died. I took my kids to the beaches of Normandy, and you can see how many young kids died fighting for freedoms, how many wars were fought, and we won.”

Spartz is 1 of 17 Republican women who were elected to the House this year and believes her story resonates with voters in her district, especially suburban women who want prosperity for their children.

“Well, my district, it’s really a snapshot of America, and I have urban, suburban voters, rural voters, and we have a lot of women and I’m a mother of two daughters. I’m a suburban woman,” she said. “I’m very hopeful to see that majority of people in our country don’t believe in socialistic utopic ideas that the Democratic Party is now promoting. So, women believe in the future of their children, they care about the good economy, job, education, public safety.”

Spartz, who beat her Democrat opponent 50.02 to 45.9 percent, said she grew up in a Soviet-controlled Ukraine and knows that socialism isn’t sustainable. “I saw what happens when it runs out of money, and it’s not pretty.

“And to see we’re building socialism [in the United States], I’m kind of going full circle. So, I can tell you what is going to be next. It’s very sad for me to see that, and as a mother of two daughters, it made me get involved and do something about it because that’s not very good for our country.”

Many in the Republican Party and some in the Democratic Party believe Democrat House candidates lost seats to Republican candidates because they ran on socialist platforms such as Medicare for All and defunding the police.

Spartz said giving people equal rights to pursue happiness is correct, but equality can’t be forced. “If the government forces us to be equal, you have to suppress,” she said.

“Every socialistic system is about suppression, and we have to value our freedoms because we’re the greatest republic that ever existed.”
