Grandfather Paul, a retired pastor, his daughter Amy, who works in risk management, and granddaughter Taylor, a graphic designer, were all at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center watching the world-renowned Chinese traditional dance and music company perform.
The choreography was outstanding. It was all perfection, she said.
The performance clearly distinguished the differences between traditional Chinese culture and China as it is today where, under the rule of the Communist Party, there are Chinese people being persecuted, she said.
“I like traditions. I like older cultures, so I enjoy seeing that portrayed,” said Amy.
“I really liked the fact that [Shen Yun] exposes communism for what it is,” said Dr. Paul. He praised the synchronicity and skill of the dancers and the beautiful costumes.
“[The performers have] obviously have practiced and practiced and practiced,” he said.
The portrayal of spiritual messages was well done. Dr. Paul gave his interpretation of one of the messages.
Connected With Traditions
Stanley Butler and Ted Keane, investment property managers from Boston, drove during the night to see Shen Yun in Newark. They both agreed that the performance was spectacular.
“And it’s well worth the trip,” said Keane.
“I think it’s valuable for everyone no matter what their religion, these are the values that all people can agree on,” he said.
“And I think everyone has that same belief that there’s a higher power and that we are all part of that,” said Keane.
He was uplifted by the pieces that portrayed the spiritual side of ancient Chinese society.
The two friends agreed that the music played by Shen Yun’s orchestra was euphoric. The orchestra is unique, blending traditional Chinese and classical Western instruments.
The music gave “a feeling of being transcended into another spiritual world,” Butler added.
