COLLEGE STATION, Texas—On Feb. 4, company professor Michael Jackson and his wife Marci, a health consultant, enjoyed Shen Yun Performing Arts for the first time at the Rudder Auditorium. The couple loved every part of the experience.

“The stories are very new to me and surprising. I expected the ancient stories from 5,000 years of history. I did not expect the more modern stories and the regional stories. So, I’m learning. It’s very good,” Mr. Jackson exclaimed. “The dancing captivates me. … It’s mesmerizing.”
Shen Yun is the world’s premier classical Chinese dance and music company. Its New York-based artists are dedicated to reviving the beauty and goodness of China before communism.

According to the company’s website, the show is filled “with stories and legends, vibrant costumes and backdrops, original music, and a few fun surprises—it’s an experience that will delight your senses, inspire your heart, and just leave you feeling great.”

Mrs. Jackson couldn’t agree more. She, too, was impressed by China’s divine-inspired culture.
“The dance seems to be very different in the different regions [of China.] So, it’s very interesting.”

Moreover, the couple loved Shen Yun’s music and the live orchestra that accompanies each of the dances.

“The orchestra is just absolutely impressive, along with the dancing. Very nice. And the journey through the different stories tied so seamlessly with the music is really impressive. I’ve never seen anything quite like it,” Mr. Jackson said. “It’s pretty wonderful.”

He especially loved the music for the Tibetan dance, and Mrs. Jackson was very impressed by how powerful the brass section sounded.

The music “takes you on the journey that the dancers are telling. So, it’s wonderful,” she added.

Shen Yun’s orchestra is the first in the world to permanently combine ancient Chinese and Western instruments.

Using classical Western orchestration as the foundation, the artists’ original compositions highlight traditional Chinese instruments such as the two-stringed erhu and the pipa—an ancient Chinese lute. Bringing to its audience the best of both worlds.

Last but not least, Mrs. Jackson would like to thank Shen Yun “for bringing the show to College Station.”

“It’s a real treat, a real cultural treat,” she said.
