ATLANTA—“Loved it,” said Rob Fleming after seeing Shen Yun Performing Arts at the Cobb Energy Centre in Atlanta on Dec. 27. “It was great. These performers are very talented.”
“Through the universal language of music and dance, Shen Yun weaves a wondrous tapestry of heavenly realms, ancient legends, and modern heroic tales, taking you on a journey through 5,000 years of Chinese culture,” read’s Shen Yun’s website. “Its stunning beauty and tremendous energy leave audiences uplifted and inspired.”
Mr. Fleming, owner of Fleetwood Construction, said he doesn’t get to see as much of the arts as he'd like, but added, “I’ve seen enough shows to understand the talent that these dancers have, to be able to make the moves that they make.”
A Shen Yun performance features the world’s foremost classically trained dancers, a unique orchestra blending East and West, and dazzling animated backdrops—together creating one spectacular performance.
“They’re just great performers,” Mr. Fleming said. “They’re bodies are so flexible and fluid, and they’re at one with the music.”
It was the first time he had experienced classical Chinese dance, and he regretted that Shen Yun could not yet visit China. “I had no idea about this type of performance, and I was a little disappointed that they can’t do this over in China,” he said. “That they can’t share this talent in China.”
An integral part of a Shen Yun performance is its orchestra, which “combines the spirit, beauty, and distinctiveness of Chinese music with the precision, power, and grandeur of the Western symphony orchestra,” according to Shen Yun’s website.
“The orchestra was really great, too,” Mr. Fleming said. “It’s the blend of the Eastern and the Western, and they did a really good job.”
Most importantly, Mr. Fleming said people must “be able to freely express.”
“I believe in everybody’s freedom and their beliefs, and to believe whatever they believe.”
