FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla.—Attorney Al Massey and Wendy Bohem, a retired legal assistant, attended Shen Yun’s opening show at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts on Jan. 3.
Walked into the theatre, Mr. Massey didn’t know what to expect. He was pleasantly surprised by how captivating the performance was.
“It’s an excellent show. I’m just amazed to see how interesting ancient Chinese culture is,” he exclaimed. “Very nice.”
Ms. Bohem, too, said it’s “a very unique presentation.”
Shen Yun Performing Arts is the world’s premier classical Chinese dance and music company. Its New York-based artists are dedicated to reviving the beauty and goodness of China before communism.
Mr. Massey was especially impressed by the company’s animated 3D backdrop, which seamlessly collaborated with the dancers’ movements on stage to take storytelling to a whole new level. This innovative technology is so unique that it holds its own patent.
“The photography is so clear. Then, having the dancers jump and suddenly appear in the scene—it’s just clever the way they’ve done that.”
“It’s great,” Mr. Massey said. “It reflects an ancient culture that those of us who grew up thinking of China only as a communist country don’t realize.”
Endowed with thousands of years of history, China was once revered as the “Land of the Divine.” Its people have always believed that by keeping their hearts pure and adhering to strict moral standards, they will be blessed by the divine.
Today, Shen Yun artists are carrying forward this legacy, inspiring audiences with their optimism and unwavering dedication.
“It’s amazing the ties between Christianity and the ancient Chinese culture—they sort of blend together,” he reflected.
“It’s very similar to Western culture in that respect—the spiritual belief of the Creator coming from heaven to earth.”
Met with wide acclaim since its inception in 2006, Shen Yun has quickly grown from one to eight equally-sized companies that tour around the world simultaneously each year. The company is scheduled to present three more shows in Fort. Lauderdale this weekend.
